I am again writing to you in plea for the commutation and release of my beloved husband, Chucky Phillips (DIN 10B1436).
Since the moment he came into my life, I have grown to admire, respect and love this man so deeply. I am in awe of his character, intelligence, kindness, respect and the repentance he carries for his crime. The light he exudes on everyone around him is no less than profound. He gives to others, respects the forced authority bestowed on him, has taken a horrendous situation and transformed it into a life for himself he can tolerate and excel in despite his circumstances. He is respected and relied upon by DOCCS staff. Called upon to perform duties and assist with matters that no one would do. A peacemaker. He has literally saved lives of men who can not save themselves. Whether it was a heart attack, diabetic shock, deep depression, a broken heart or starvation. He shows empathy to everyone. I have said this time and time again-it us unfathomable to me that I’ve found such an extraordinary man as he in this world, let alone one who has been incarcerated for so long and still radiates such beauty.
His love, light and kindness inspire me every day to become a better person. His presence has such a positive and calming effect on my heart and soul that I cannot express it in words. He radiates this to all around him. He works his ass off at three jobs, as a volunteer, and resides in a block as an escort for the blind and deaf so he can help them. He will help anyone in need and comes to the defense of the weak.
Never asks me for anything for himself but his basic needs, and rather would do for others. I am permanently disabled. He loves me unconditionally, faithfully and loyally. He supports me through thick and thin, and shows up for me in ways I’ve never known. His love is nothing short of divine.
I commit to you today that should you choose to grant his commutation, he will come home to a stable, loving and healthy home environment. He will NOT reoffend. He will NEVER commit another crime. He has been redeemed by this time. If you would take an hour out of your day to meet or speak with him personally, you will see what we all see.
His spirituality and faith is like nothing I’ve ever felt or experienced. He draws the good out of me and everyone around him without even trying. He is actively involved in his Native American roots, as an active dancer and singer. He leads the facility in Native education. His voice draws in strangers. State visitors have asked to be invited back to his religious events just so they can hear him sing and watch him transform a room. And actually returned to watch.He is well known and respected by leaders. Others comment to him daily how grateful and humbled they are by his thoughtfulness.
He is college educated & carries multiple certificates. He is a brilliant and perspicacious mind. His quiet, calm strength-mentally, emotionally and physically-is that of more than just a mere man. It is time for him to flourish in the free world. It is time to release him. His loving nature, maturity, and emotional stability are just a few of the qualities that made me fall in love with him. His release will have such a strong impact on the community as we have big plans for our future of giving and healing  together. He has a solid plan in place for the direction in which he wants his life to go. His vision is clear. Chucky has every support system he needs in me, in his large close knit family, and in his teenage son who all also adore and need him home.
I am overflowing with humility as I plead to you to please release this angel NOW to the free world. You will NOT regret it. Give him his chance NOW to be the success story of the DOCCS that will one day be written about.
